Scientific name: Allium porrum

Common name: Leek, French garlic

General description: Known since antiquity by Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, including several biblical citations, the leek is one of the symbol plants of Wales. Nowadays, it is spread all over the world. It is an herbaceous plant that belongs to the same family (Alliaceae) as onions and garlic.


We have available seeds of the leek variety 'De Carentan 2'.


Nutritional facts: Contains vitamin C, iron, folates, and vitamin B6.


 


GROWING CONDITIONS

Climate: Mild, without excessive heat, with good luminosity. It needs a period of cold during its vegetative cycle.

Soil: Although it adapts well to various soil types, it prefers deep, fertile, and well-drained soils. Soil pH should be between 6.0 and 6.8.

Watering: Frequent. The drip system can be a good option, preventing the leaves from getting wet.

Associations: Celery, Lettuce, Potato, Beetroot, Onion, Carrot, Cabbage, Spinach, Strawberry, Tomato
